Mission

The Wayside Day Centre exists to help to prevent and alleviate homelessness and to promote social inclusion through the delivery of a range of person centred services.

Aims:

  • To enable people who are homeless to access social networks and seek assistance in a safe and welcoming environment.
  • To meet the basic, practical and nutritional needs of people affected by homelessness and/or social exclusion.
  • To intervene as quickly as possible in the cycle of homelessness and enable people to maintain a level of stability in their lives.
  • To empower and enable homeless people to become independent, self-determining and to move on from homelessness at the point where they feel able to do so.
  • To help re-establish people's confidence and self-belief and enable them to realise their full potential.
  • To enable service users to use their knowledge, skills and experience to influence and have active participation in the planning and development of the day centre service.
  • To value the contribution made by and develop the skills of staff, volunteers and students.
  • To be accountable to our funders.

Objectives

  • To provide a warm, welcoming and safe meeting place and drop-in facility which offers immediate assistance and is openly accessible to people affected by homelessness.
  • To provide a non-profit making café facility, encouraging regular nourishment and healthy eating.
  • To provide practical help by providing access to showers, clothing, money management, first aid and other basic services.
  • To provide a holistic and professional service offering advice, support, advocacy and referral work to clients requiring specific help in any area of their lives which have become problematic.
  • To work in partnership with other voluntary and statutory agencies in order to best meet people's needs.
  • To support people through the process of resettlement by providing resources that best meet their self-identified needs.
  • To provide and facilitate access to a range of recreational, educational and employment opportunities for our clients.
  • To develop mechanisms for ensuring greater accountability to service users, effective user consultation and meaningful user-involvement.
  • To ensure that staff, volunteers and students receive the support and training they require to enable them develop their skills and expertise.
  • To provide those bodies responsible for funding the centre's operation with accurate and well evidenced reports on the work done.
